The World Hepatitis Day press release has mentioned some scary statistics about Hepatitis B & C and it has come to light that 1.5million people die each year from the disease. The disease is also more infectious than HIV/Aids; which brings me to the point of this post. The reason that people are still dying even though there is treatment is because the world as a whole has very little knowledge of this deadly disease.
The awareness levels of this disease are considerably lower than that of HIV/Aids and therefore the people that are at risk are unaware they are and the people who have the disease are unaware that they have it and so treatment is not sought out.
Treatments for both B & C strains of the disease are available and a vaccine for Hepatitis B is available but without people knowing this the medicines are not being used as much as they could be.
